In Italy at lumberyards you buy wood on cubic measures: that long that wide that thick its this much cubic meters so you owe this..., pretty simple and you get all you pay, only sheet material goes by sheet price and thats the only stuff with odd measure (a 2cm ply will infact be 1.9cm, that to accomodate an eventual lamination on top). Few years im here in NA and i still get pi... off when i have to go get extra wood just because of that fraction of an inch.
