: Roger - Sharp looking frame! Good call on the ribs, they can be narrow say
: 5/8" to 1" wide . Some Greenland kayaks used few ribs maybe only
: 10 in a 17' kayak but they were wide ribs 1 1/2 " and did the job.
: For my kayaks I like ribs 15/16" wide , 1/4" thick and about 7
: 1/2" apart on average

The 1 1/2" ribs are overkill with hardwoods. Maybe Morris was attempting to make a bullit proof boat. It makes a fine boat but is a whole lot of work for little gain.

I like a rib of hard wood about 1" wide and 1/4" to 3/16" thick. If I space them about a hand span apart it should create a very sound boat. I could even go a bit wider on the spans. Depends on what the usage for the boat will be.
