Until you're an experienced builder, it's usually best to follow the designer's instructions. Just knock the first one out. As hard as you may try, even your subsequent builds won't be perfect. I don't think there's a perfect build out there. As the saying goes, a good carpenter is just better at hiding his mistakes.
