I enjoy using one. It's not super thin like the true native paddles, its more like the "Cricket" brand of Grenland paddle. There's quite a bit of purchast to it.

Many times conventional paddle users say to me "I need lots of power for surfing and to accelerate quickly. I always offer to race them for a 100 yards or so from a dead start. I have never been beat. I'm not a great athlete or racer. You can just really go like hell with it. The reason it dosen't get blown out of your hand is not just because it thin, but also because it is convex like an airplane wing. My usable surface area is equilivent to a small euro-blade paddle. Where are these women that get impressed with the rolls? I must have been rolling for years at the wrong place. The only shorcomings I find is that bow and stern rudders are a little less effective due to the fact you just have less "rudder". I just compensate by using more angle or dipping the blade in deeper.. I agree with George. Use what you like.
