Well, I guess it should be better stated that the lights let us know when they are wandering through the camp. We get many bears wandering through apparently. I guess the lights just show 'em where dinner is. I heard a story that this summer a bear got under the kitchen and was trying to claw its way through the floor. I didn't hear what happened to the bear though...my bet is that it didn't get any dinner. The site is not fenced so the bears wander where ever they choose. If I am still working here by next summer, I will have my chance to see them up close. Not allowed to have a camera on site so can't share the experience with y'all. One of the techies here said he saw 7 bears wander through camp during his 5 month tenure here...that's a lot of bear but then again, we are pretty far north. Look up Ft MacMurray on Google Maps, then look 120-kms further north and slightly east, that is where I spend my working time these days. Very close to Wood Buffalo Park...always wanted to be air dropped into the middle of Wood Buffalo and hike back to civilization. Might just do that one day...very wild area up here. The evidence is overwhelming that this is a wild place...snowy owls are rare and avoid humanity at all costs so to see so many of them in one evening is something to be excited about.
