It's not like these things are all that fast, you'd need some other kind of power to actually hurt someone by hitting them. And I'd presume that when you go to the trouble and time to build one of these things you very likely aren't going around running into things.

The power can be provided by the ocean/wind/waves/surf as others have mentioned.
'Giving your bow' for an Eskimo rescue is an example of a 'deliberate collision' .
Imagine yourself as a swimmer with a sharp bow pitching vertically in the waves - it's intimidating. Almost as bad as a stern-hung rudder.....
A ball on the end of the boat doesn't prevent problems with the sharp edge, BTW. I put a 'commercial looking' blunter radius on the ends.

And, I do use my stripper kayaks for paddling around other boats and in rescue practice, around rocks, etc. a.k.a. running into things. That's why my boats have 'ugly' perimeter deck lines and functional toggles - unlike some of the 'museum quality' boats I see in internet pictures. ;-)
