Jay,

Please don't misunderstand me, I'm not against using a rolling bevel. This is from my last response to Rob: "Yes, I happen to think that B&C is the better building technique for all the reasons I've already stated. However, if you want to do rolling bevels, if you like it, if it works for you...great! I'm totally happy for you!"

: Maybe someone who is all for cove and bead wants to advise Dave what to do
: with all of those "V" shaped ends that occurs all over the
: kayak? Using cove an bead on a kayak is not like making a barrel where all
: the strips run parallel to each other the entire length of the boat. when
: they end in a "V" shape you are now trying to match in to a cove
: or bead.

That's only necessary if you want to do something like a Herringbone pattern or if you strip from the shear towards the keel and from the keel towards the sheer at the same time. It's not necessary to do that, but it's an option if you want that look. Nick describes the process thoroughly in his book on pages 87 to 89. Here's another option: http://www.oneoceankayaks.com/Wshophtm/Shop6.htm I use this technique for the keel line and down the center of the deck; it's much faster and it avoids having to fit individual strip ends one by one.
