The last Black Pearl I built had a fully recessed, carbon fiber coaming. I built it using a modified form of Bjorn's process. I cut the opening slightly bigger than the outside of the lip. A rabbet was cut into the foam so the foam would be at least even with the deck. After shaping I glassed it in one shot: recess, riser and lip for one smooth, organic curve. When cured I cut away the wood covering the recess, and scraped out the foam. The recess and lip were sanded and then I applied a "show" layer of carbon, followed by a layer of glass. I like the fact it's one solid lamination. It came out really nice.
